Hencon’s
history

The Netherlands, 1956. When we first started out, we mainly made side loaders and road construction vehicles, such as motor graders. In the early years, we introduced our familiar side-loading concept, in use in the global steel and wood industry for 40 years. Many years of experience combined with flexibility and innovative drive are key features of our identity.

Entry into the aluminium industry

In 1972, we ventured into the light metal industry, becoming the world’s leading company in special mobile equipment for the aluminium industry. Our programme includes a complete range of special vehicles for casthouses, foundries and potrooms. We also started manufacturing special handling equipment and custom-made vehicles for the concrete industry, where big prefabricated elements have become widespread.

Timeline

1956

Since our founding in 1956 in the Netherlands under the name Hendré, we have built vehicles with a clear mission: smart, strong, and reliable. What started with sideloaders and road construction vehicles has grown into a globally proven sideloader concept for the steel and timber industries.

1960

In 1960, Hendré built a new facility in Silvolde, marking an important step in expanding our production capacity and strengthening our technical expertise.

1997

In 1997, Dirk Kuiken took over the company, stepping into leadership and opening a new chapter in our growth. Under his direction, the focus on engineering quality, innovation, and customer-led solutions remained central, laying the foundation for Hencon’s continued international development.

1998

In 1998, Hencon acquired Van der Pavert/Caesar, expanding our portfolio with Caesar excavators and further strengthening our technical capabilities and mobile equipment offering.

2000

In South Africa, Hencon operates through its own local entities, including Hencon Handling and Hencon Vacuum Technologies. Based in Johannesburg and Richards Bay, these teams bring our expertise directly to customers in the regional mining and industrial sectors, providing local service, technical support, and tailor-made solutions.

2003

In 2003, Hencon further expanded its international footprint with the establishment of Hencon Maquinaria Limitada in Mozambique. From this strategic location in Maputo, we strengthen our service and support for customers across Africa and beyond, combining local expertise with global quality.

2005

In 2005, Hencon moved to Stenenmaat, expanding our production facilities and establishing a strong base for continued growth. This location strengthened our capacity for custom-built solutions, service, and innovation in mobile industrial equipment.

2008

In 2008, Hencon expanded its global network with Hencon Services India Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between Hencon BV (the Netherlands) and Water Services Infrastructure India. From Mumbai and our workshops in Jharsuguda, we serve the Indian market with sales, service, maintenance, and local manufacturing of specialised vehicles and tailor-made solutions for the metals, mining, and aluminium industries. With a strong local team, we deliver innovative support close to our customers and strengthen our position in one of the world’s key growth regions.

2009

In 2009, we acquired Wellink Bosbouw and merged the companies into Wellink-Caesar. This step strengthened our market position and further expanded our range of specialised machines and solutions.

2015

2019

In 2019, Hencon Forestry, previously Wellink-Caesar, adopted its new name and relocated to our De Bolanden site, Hencon’s former facility. At the same time, we launched our own wood chipper brand, Axsel, further strengthening our position in the forestry sector with innovative, high-quality machines.

2023

In 2023, Hencon Forestry opened a new site in Brandscheid. This expansion strengthens our service and support capabilities and brings us even closer to our customers in the forestry sector, with local expertise and tailor-made solutions.
